Construction moving forward on school buildings

    School District Building and Grounds Supervisor Wes DeLuca gave an update on ongoing construction projects throughout the district to the St. James Board of Education on Thursday night. Construction is moving on schedule and work on the early childhood center and performing arts center are continuing quickly.

District contracts for temporary classroom space

    The St. James Board of Education, on Thursday night, approved two contracts for offsite classroom space to use during construction at the high school. Both the Christian Church and the former Golden Age Center in Nelson Hart Park will be used as classrooms are rearranged to accommodate construction at the high school. The board will have a new meeting location from January through May as well.

St. James students attend Future Teachers of America meeting

Students from across the state met in Columbia last week for the Future Teachers of America (FTA) state leadership meeting. The theme for the meeting was "Teachers Rise to the Occasion."

Traffic safety measures put into place along St. Ann Avenue

    The St. James City Council met on Tuesday, November 12 to discuss several matters pertaining to the city. During the meeting, the council:
    • Approved an ordinance to make a portion of St. Ann Avenue no parking on either side of the street on a curve in the area for public safety. The council has worked with Public Works Director Lyle Thomas and Police Chief Ron Jones to make the necessary changes, which were caused by parked cars making the road narrower and dangerous for oncoming traffic and emergency responders traveling in the neighborhood.
