The short, intense St. James Middle school volleyball season started off with the seventh grade winning the first set of the season 25-16 against Sullivan and taking third in their first tournament.

However, it was a strong finish to the first period and fast start to the fourth quarter which proved to be the difference, as the season came to an end for the top-seeded St. James Tigers at the hands of the second-seeded Ava Bears 66-58 in the championship game of the Missouri Class 3 District 4 Tournament Friday, Feb. 28 at Mountain Grove High School.
As usual the St. James High School girls’ basketball team’s stingy defense was enough to win a district championship for the Lady Tigers Friday night. Against the top-seeded Licking Lady Wildcats, however, second-seeded St. James simply couldn’t mount enough offense to make that defensive effort stand.
The St. James boys and girls basketball teams will be playing for district championship on Friday night. After the Lady Tigers won their semifinal game on Tuesday, the Tigers won Wednesday night to reach the finals.
Red-hot from long range, the top-seeded St. James High School boys basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Missouri Class 3 District 4 Tournament by blasting eighth-seeded host Mountain Grove 87-41 in first-round action Monday, Feb. 24 at Mountain Grove High School.
